We need a new water heater and are very torn between a tank, a tankless gas, and a tankless electric. We’re leaning towards the electric. Any advice?

gas would save money over electric anyday but either way, electric or gas , i would go for the tankless.
the tankless only heats water when needed, not all day and night like the conventional hot water tank so the savings are tremendous right from the start.

Yes it will save you money. In fact you may even earn credit or rebates from your utility company.
The question to ask your self how long you plan on being in your home and will the installation cost justify the savings over the years.
Electric may give you more options on placement because you won’t have to worry about venting like you would on a tank less gas water heater. But your furnace may need a different venting solution based on your local codes ETC.
As I sell the Rinnai tank less system the cost is very prohibitive to most folks,
