power demand refering to 7.5 hp motor load at 80% efficieny and pf of 0.95?

by Water Heaters on July 18, 2010

I have this question that I can not answer… I have no idea where the eff and pf play a role with regards to a motor.

A commercial building has the following electrical loads.

A 10 kW water heater, a 10,000 watt lighting system, a 1.5 kW air conditioning unit, three 750 watt heating elements, and a motor load of 7.5 horsepower operating at an efficiency of approximately 80% and a power factor of 0.95.

a)Determine the power demand when all loads are energized.

b)Determine the reduced demand when the following conditions occur:
i)Summer loading: 50% motor load and no heating elements, with the other loads remaining the same.

ii)Winter loading: 75% motor load, and no air conditioning with other loads operating at maximum.
