I have a new water heater and it leaks a little bit when the water reheats. usually occurs when I am doing laundry. the water leaks on the concrete slab from a copper pipe. I would say about 6 oz.

the company said that is due to thermal expansion and that I need an expansion tank.

question: do I really need this? what happens if I don’t put it in? can I just leave as is?
appreciate all the responses. most of them seemed more like opinions than based on fact.

yes I called the water heater company and they said the expansion tank is recommended. the city says it is not required and the excess water (runs from a copper pipe) can be drained to the concrete slab in the garage per code.

so my question remains should I add the expansion tank? If I don’t then it puts increased stress on the tank but what does that mean? does that mean I may get half the life usage? the expansion tank is going to cost about 0 to install the whole water heater only cost me 0 installed

Our hot water tank quit working so we really need a new one and don’t really have the money to spend. We got offered a 2 month old water heater for free, but here’s the catch:
The people who just moved out of that house that have the new water heater, had cockroaches pretty bad.
What are the chances that roaches are living in the water heater?
The house has been empty , with no heat at all for a good month -almost two months now. (Temp here is 20-30 degrees at the highest.
We really don’t want roaches in invade our home, but yet a free water heater that would otherwise cost hundreds is there for the taking.
Do you think the roaches could have gotten in it?
Do you think they’d be dead now?
What about the eggs, how long do they live?

.. to his best friend. I’ve been dating this man for about a month now, and he is amazing. Very good looking, owns his own company, his own home, he can cook….. he can even flip pancakes in the air and catch them in the pan. He is overall amazing and I like him a lot. Recently I was playing with his phone and snooping quite honestly and I read a text he sent his best friend a few days prior saying "dude, mark my words, she’s the one"
He is 32, I’m 26. He’s not the overly emotional type, truly very manly. In the old spice commercial where the actor says do you wish your man would bake you a cake in the dream kitchen he built for you with his bare hands….. that is this man. I have no idea what to think of this. I guess I’m wondering what this means. He also is fixing up his already amazing home more. He called me today to say he was going t surprise me with what he had done tonight when I come over for a movie bu he wanted to tell me now. He bought a new hot water heater and installed it himself, a new water filtration system and installed it himself, and a new toilet that yes he installed himself. All of his friends are married, and I’m just curious about this behavior. Not that any sane woman would complain.

I am specifically interested in the material and what section of the hardware store to find it. Due to the variance in the dimensions between the new water heater and the old one, I can’t use the old vent. I need a little more length. The vent is 3 inches in diameter. I need a one foot section and three foot section with a flexible “elbow” connecting the two. The previous vent was very thin sheet metal and it had surface rust on it. The elbow was a corrugated bendable piece. When I went to Lowes, they had vent pieces in the water heater section. But, by the time I bought everything, it would have been close to !! The ventilation they had looked like a vent within a vent. Do most local codes require this type of venting or is there a more economical way to vent this using something similar to what was there before? Would metal corrugate venting like one used in a clothes dryer work? Safety is critical also. I know sometimes Lowe’s sticks it to you with their kits.
