There are many advantages to a propane water heater, over an electric model, and even natural gas. For electric, a propane or any gas appliance is going to work better because the heat exchanger is a direct fire, rather than heating the water with an element. Because of this you save money because gas burns hotter, stays hot longer and burns very cleanly, and in fact produces half the emissions that the same amount of electricity produced from a coal fired plant.

There are many other benefits as well. Propane is portable and also available in many areas where Natural Gas isn’t. New propane customers usually are able to not only have a tank installed on their property for free, they will even hook up all the lines to the water heaters for free. There are many choices when dealing with propane, there are instant, on demand water heaters, small water heaters and even portable ones that you can take with you on camping trips. They are also, as much, and in many cases cheaper than other models.

For example, the Bosch Aquastar 1600 Propane Tankless Water Heater is a whole house water heater, with an output of 117,000Btu’s. It will provide endless hot water for one application at a time, like a shower, and can even replace a forty gallon water tank. It has a 12 year warranty on the heat exchanger and 2 years on all parts and sells for under $700 brand new.

The LPG L5 Portable Propane Gas Tankless Hot Water Heater provides safe water heating anywhere, an outdoor Jacuzzi, or any other remote application. It will provide 80 degrees of continuous hot water, with a flow rating of 1.9 gallons a minute, ideal for one application at a time. There is a 10 year warranty on the heat exchange, and 5 years on free replacement parts, or even a new one at the discretion of the manufacturer. You get all of this for under $500, brand new.

If you just can’t live without a tank water heater, the Rheem 40 Gallon FVR Propane Water Heater, 6YR 22V40F1P is the one for you. It has an unique air/fuel shut off device for double your protection, is maintenance free so there is not filter to clean, has a special, EverKleen system to reduce sediment build up inside the tank. It comes with a 6 year limited warranty on tank and replacement parts and sells for an astounding $332 and some change.

There are so many different models to choose from that it can often get overwhelming. The real thing is to try to get a propane hot water heater that has the best warranty overall. You will find that ones with the longest warranty are really only a little more expensive, but will last longer than ones without a good warranty. If you are new at buying a water heater, or it has been a long time, it may be a good idea to look around at some of your local home improvement outlets first. Then you will be able to see many different models at the same time, and be able to have any questions you may have answered right then and there.
