I’m looking to buy a new hot water heater but im stuck on which to get.
A rinnai or a tank? What the advantages and disadvantages of both. What one would be best for my money?

I am buying a 1238sf split level home, that is very energy efficient. Some key features are lennox G61 two stage furnace 95% with touch screen t panel, Rinnai on demand hot water heater, all exterior walls blown with R-23 dense pact optima w/ fabric, R-50 in attic, windows are low E/argon glass which meets energy star .3, zip wall system, zip roof, 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, gas stove, certified blow door tested, all duct work sealed and insulated to energy standards, spray foam all over heads, forced hot air. So my question is how long would a 500 gal propane tank last on avg in the winter months and then after the winter?

What are the 5 must have things in your modern house ?

I’ve done numerous searches on tanless water heaters. http://www.thebesttanklesswaterheater.net/ says Navien is the best. Others say Rinnai. Hm. Depot carries Rheem.

is it wise to hook a solar water storage tank to an on-demand water propane heater to provide preheated water so they dont turn on or work less? i have been told that once an on-demand heater wants to come on with the minimum flow rate the heat sensor will cycle on and off, wearing it out with already 140 degree water… is there a fix if this is true? what if i cheated the heater to have 80 degree water instead of 140-160 available? it would have to heat less, but like itd have a regular work load..
2 plumbers have 2 different answers. i just think their experience doesnt know and mainly my question isnt answered very solid.
i think i get it now…
if flow rate is higher, the burner adjusts to use more gas to heat faster.
and the dang burner just comes on regardless of water temp because its a flow rate switch…

and a set point is how the heater knows how much to heat the water within its flow rate so it can actually save some gas there like RancidCrab’s boiler circulation setup.

so if i feed a on-demand 140F h20, its going to be heated even more. yikes!
but what if i make the set point high?
id have to so the flame would be minimum…
still, its a cost.

this was great help you guys. i think i will keep them separated and find a mixing valve to sense the gravity hot tank going cold so it can switch the water to the rinnai…i have been at looking those mostly.
i used to have a french brand (forgot name) many years ago, and i just always ran it full on, no cold mix at all..it was either on, or it was off..went to solar then. i need just alittle more hot water in the winter to wash everything. ty again!

I am building a house and purchased a Rinnai 2532W LP outdoor tankless water heater. Can I install this model in my garage without venting it?
I am building a house and purchased a Rinnai 2532W LP outdoor tankless water heater. Can I install this model in my garage without venting it? What is the danger if I don’t vent it? I don’t live in the garage after all?
I also have a set of White Mountain Hearth ventless gas logs. I suppose those need to be vented as well?!

We ran out of propane in our large tank and could not afford to fill it so we used small BBQ ones on our rinnai. We just put 100 gallons in our 600 gallon tank and our stove works but not our tankless water heater. We replaced our regulator and pigtail. Any ideas?

which tankless water heater is the best?
Any comments/suggestion about following brands? I am planning to buy one of them.
Also, Out door or indoor is better? I live in AL.
