I am wondering weather the economies of a tank-less water heater are worth the trouble, for a household of two. Husband (that "little old winemaker is…m—e–!") takes long showers.

We currently have a coil that heats our water…and we take short showers and the kids get half a bath. We were considering adding a tankless hot water heater such as "instant hot" to our gas or a water tank like "super stor ultra" to our oil burner. I’m wondering if a product like instant hot will really give an endless hot shower and fill the tub too. I’d appreciate feedback/experience with this.

Just wondering if this is a good, reliable, and economical way to heat a condo? (installed in 2004)

How does it stack up against an electrical heat pump, or gas furnace?

And is it able to heat a condo as warm as one wants (even during the coldest days of the winter), while still always maintaining hot water on demand for showers, etc? Condo would be located in the mid-Atlantic state of Virginia.

Looking at buying a condo. The hot water for all 16 units is supplied from a "central commercial gas-fired, 120 gallon, high-output, quick-recovery water heater with circulating pump." A 120 gallon tank sounds unbelievably small for a building with 16 bathrooms, washers, dishwashers, and other hot water needs. Am I misunderstanding how hot water heaters work, or would it be accurate to say that when everyone gets up in the morning to take their showers, most of them will be cold within about 3 minutes?
Asking the residents would be a good idea, except it is a new building, no units have been sold yet.

I’m used to gas water heaters which have a big red dial on the front. Right now, the water heater heats up enough water for two showers at best. And, it takes the thing like two hours to warm back up. We are having guests soon and we need more hot water than this thing will produce.

There is no dial on the front, and we removed the front panel and there was just styrofoam behind it. What is the deal with this thing? Is there no way to turn it up? It is an A.O. Smith Water Heater, if that helps.

I only use my water heater for showers..is it more efficient to turn it on prior to use and then tur it off or does it use the same amount of gas if left on? Does it use alot of propane just ot have the pilot on?

We have an 80 gal hot water heater and after just 2 wash loads and 2 showers, we’re out of hot water. My husband has never drained off any sediment (I think you’re supposed to do that), and I have no idea how old it is. What maintenance is supposed to be done on a hot water heater and how can we improve its performance?

I have a 60 gallon natural gas water heater here in houston, TX. It is coming to the end of its natural life- apprx 10 years. The house has 3 showers, 5 sinks (including kitchen), washer and dishwasher. 2 adults live here. I want to know
1- when it comes time to replace should I use a tankless water heater?
2- what capacity tankless heater do I need?
3- when some turns on the hot water faucet and quickly switches it of, does the unit turn on? or is it smart?
