There are 4 reasons why a water heater t&p valve leaks please read about it here.

I also did a blow up of what is printed on the T&P valve warning label. Most people never read it and it is very important.

it sounds like your T&P Valve may be bad, or you might need a new water heater, consult your local plumber

That valve you talk about has went Kaput. Turn off water . Pipe wrench it off and install anew one. That is a Safety Valve , a must have Item. Heater without them could explode and tear down the house. Do it now because you are using a lot of water and electricity. Don’t forget to reinstall the drain pipe, because safety valve could release and flood your house.

The TPR valve is shot. It needs to be replaced. This can be a DIY project if you have some mechanical skills. There are a couple of types of valves and you will need to get the right one for your water heater.

If you aren’t mechanically inclined, please call a plumber. Hot water can scald you.

You need a pop off valve or you need a water pressure regulator to turn down the water pressure.

That sounds like your pressure relief valve has gone kaput. You can wrench it out and buy a new one. Thats the valve that should your water heater decide to overheat and throw water, it should open and let the water go out through the drain and save catastrophe. Get it replaced and it’s not a big deal if you don’t know how to do it. Tell the repairperson what it is and what type of water heater you have and watch him repair it and you will know next time. You always have to pay to learn. Or if you are able, ask at your local hardware place for instructions.
